May: The Cycle of Drifting
Sin is cyclical.
You’re probably wondering…Delfine, what does that even mean?!
There’s a cycle to sinning. We drift away → We sin → God creates a consequence → We cry out for help → God delivers. And then we do it again.
The thing is, He knew we would. The sin was inevitable, so God divinely appointed judges to keep them in check.
“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” — Judges 21:25
After the death of Joshua, Israel would experience its one of the darkest periods of its history. They would experience the consequences of drifting from God and disobeying His law. Yet, even in the midst of His discipline, the Lord provided leaders for deliverance.
