July: The King We Need
Israel didn’t just ask for a king… they demanded one.
Once again, God had sent a deliverer and redeeming judge to Israel in the form of Samuel. Though his sons were becoming another generation of corrupt leaders, God had a plan to keep the Israelites on track.
But they didn’t want God’s provision or plan. They wanted a king, a physical embodiment of safety, structure and authority.
The thing is… they already had it. And what they were asking for, would come with things they weren’t prepared for.
How many times have you asked God for something else?
How many times have you rejected what God said you needed in favor of what you thought would be good for you?
How many times did that work out?
As we read through 1 Samuel this month, we’re reminded to keep our eyes on and our loyalty tied to the King we really need… the King of Kings.
